While the Augusta Arts Council is dedicated to the preservation of the Augusta Historic Theatre, the first and foremost mission of the Arts Council is to promote the Arts in Augusta and the surrounding area! The Theatre has been a great venue for this purpose. We have several plays a year on the stage of the Theatre, plus other live performances such as our Silent Movie Nights featuring the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra and our annual Gala.
We have started the renovation of the Art Centre at 527 State Street. The building was graciously given to the Arts Council by renowned Augusta artist Sandi Gore Evans before her death. The front of the building was refurbished with the the assistance of a grant thru Downtown Augusta, Inc. several years ago! A new roof is in place, the first floor has been gutted, new heat and air installed, walls framed in and brick exposed! Help is still needed to replace the old style metal ceiling tiles and to install new lighting and flooring.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please consider donating towards this project! The Art Centre is used for art classes and rehearsals for in In-House plays. When renovated, the space will be used to spotlight area artist's work, including the art shows for Augusta schools. We will also be able to bring in traveling art shows for the community! The Centre will also be a great place for meetings and receptions.
